NHS New Medicine Service
The NHS New Medicine Service (NMS) is a free service designed to help you get the most from your newly prescribed medicine for a long-term health condition. Starting a new medicine can sometimes raise questions or cause concerns about side effects, how to take it correctly, or whether it is working as expected. Our pharmacists are here to support you every step of the way.
During the service, we will:
-
Explain how your new medicine works and how to take it correctly.
-
Answer any questions or concerns you may have.
-
Help you manage any side effects.
-
Discuss any problems you may be experiencing with your medicine.
-
Support you in getting the best possible results from your treatment.
The service usually includes an initial call followed by one or two follow-up call, either in person or by telephone, depending on your preference and eligibility.
The NHS New Medicine Service is available to eligible patients who have been prescribed a new medicine for certain long-term conditions. If you think you may be eligible, speak to one of our pharmacists, who will be happy to advise you.
All consultations are free and confidential.
